At Dimensional Design Systems, our engineers are trained to conduct on-site scanning services. The process of 3-D scanning enables the use of point clouds which helps our designers create 3-D CAD models for manufactured parts, promotes quality inspections of structures and ensures BIM designs are as close to reality as possible. Scanning also provides our team with an arsenal to create animations, renderings and visualizations for presentation.
Structural scanning is necessary for creating BIM models accurate to reality and allows coordination teams to adjust BIM design models accordingly with legitimized visualization. If issues are found with pre-existing structures or equipment, point cloud scans can enable designers to address those issues before they arise later in the coordination process.
On-site Scanning
A Dimensional Design Systems' Scanning Engineer will arrive on your job-site, active or not, to conduct a multi-day scan of the structure or property. We offer scanning for any need, from interior structural scans to existing equipment scans.
Scan to BIM Modeling
With a job-site scan completed, our team of engineers will then use Autodesk Recap to create a functional file to use in other BIM drafting programs. This will ensure high-grade modeling accuracy.
Using data gathered from a 3D laser scans, BIM designers are opened up to a plethora of information pertaining to existing conditions. Often times when fitting out existing spaces, the ground or slab could be slightly off level and show inaccurate measurements compared to its initial design. With 3D point cloud data and using programs like ReCap Pro or Rithm, our designers can check floor flatness to ensure any and all inconsistencies are caught during the BIM planning process.
Floor heat maps, scan point location analysis and floor flatness deviation data can be provided to all trade designers during coordination to ensure complete modeling accuracy.
With the use of scans being standard in well-coordinated projects, having a mesh of your 3D scan expands the possibilities and versatility of the point cloud data. When using file-reading programs like Navisworks, visibility of the 3D point cloud data is much more opaque thus increasing visibility. From 3D printing an exact copy of parts to making a solid background model for clash detection when coordinating a project - converting your 3D point cloud into a mesh can greatly increase project productivity. Our team of BIM designers and scan technicians provide a full service stop for scanning and 3D mesh curation unlike any other.
